Cubic Boron Nitride (cBN) Superabrasives

Resin Bond | Metal Bond | Metal Bond - Crystalline | Cubic Boron Nitride

Cubic Boron Nitride (cBN) is second in hardness only to the diamond. It exhibits a high abrasion resistance and thermal conductivity when compared to conventional abrasives such as Silicon Carbide and Aluminum Oxide. The thermal integrity of cBN and its ability to maintain sharp cutting edges when machining ferrous materials make it the product of choice in advanced grinding systems.

Black, medium strength, with a blocky morphology and high thermal stability. The BMI is recommended in vitrified bonds and Nickel coated (60% by weight) in resin bond grinding systems. The BMI's block morphology provides a more controlled crystal fracture, allowing the tool to better maintain its form while generating smaller particles under impact.

Dark brown, very high strength, with an angular morphology and very high thermal stability; the AMA is recommended in vitrified bonds and Nickel coated (60% by weight) in resin bond grinding systems. The AMA's tendency to macro-fracture under impact loading, coupled with its very high thermal stability provides longer wheel life. The AMA produces lower power consumption that is critical in maintaining workpiece integrity for a variety of automotive and aerospace applications.

Golden in color, very high strength, with a blocky morphology and very high thermal stability. The AMB is recommended in single layer bonds, vitrified bonds and Nickel coated (60% by weight) in resin bond grinding systems. The AMB's micro-fracturing characteristics, very high thermal integrity and very high fracture strength produce an aggressive cutting action while retaining the crystal in the bond as long as possible.

Black, medium strength, with an angular morphology and high thermal stability; the BMA is recommended uncoated in vitrified bonds and Nickel coated (60% by weight) in resin bond grinding systems. The BMA's angular morphology produces a free cutting action that reduces heat generation and power consumption while increasing grinding efficiency.

Product Options -

All cBN products are available Nickel coated 60% by weight. The textured Nickel coating provides increased mechanical retention of the crystal in phenolic and polyimide resin bond systems. The coating also dissipates heat from the grinding zone thereby extending the life of the tool and increasing workpiece integrity.
